About this work
Description
Dramatised story of the discovery of insulin, with a great deal of social and romantic interest, framed within the desperate illness and triumphant recovery of the child who becomes Banting's first human subject for insulin treatment. Examines relationships between scientists of conflicting personalities working for a common goal and promotes image of Banting as a hero, isolated from ordinary human consolations and pleasures by his compulsive commitment to science.
