About this work

Description

Lord Bute kicks out at the Duke of Newcastle knocking him off his post. Bute became a Scottish representative peer in the House of Lords in 1761. He succeeded Newcastle as first lord of the treasury in May 1762. The waning political power of William Pitt the elder is referred to by the gaping pit that yawns beneath Bute
