    “ounce ; milk-water 2 ounces ; mix for one dofe. Or, (4.) Take powder of ipeca- cuanha half a dram ; fyrup of vio- lets an ounce; milk-water 2 ounces ; mix for one dofe. Or, (5.) Take of the juice of the herb afarabaca 6 drams, or an ounce ; oxymel of {quills half an Ounce ; carduus-water 2 ounces ; mix for a draught. . _ This laft_is prefcribed chiefly to hypocondriacal and maniacal _pati- ents, and is a very ftrong emetic, fuch people requiring much larger dofes than others. __ {7.) Take mel heHeboratum an ounce ; vinegar of fquills half an ounce ; milk-water an ounce ; mix for one dofe, Or, for children, (8.) Take oxymel of fquills half an ounce; milk-water an ounce ; mix for one dofe. ' Or, (9.) Take vinegar of {quills 2 drams ; fyrup of peach bloffoms 3 drams ; mix for one dofe. Or, (10.) Take fyrup of peach: bloffoms 3 drams; emetic falt of vitriol 8 grains ; milk-water half an ounce ; mix for one dofe. In all thefe the ftrength and cir- cumftances of the patient and the _ diftemper are to be the main guide, and therefore there can be no fet forms determin’d for univerfal ufe : thefe take in what the prefent pra- tice relies on, but the milder are moft ufed, Milder Cathartics. (t) Take fyrup of damafk rofes an ounce and half; aqua mirabilis ‘2 drams ; mix for one dofe. Or, (2.) Take fyrup of rhubarb and half ; mix for one dofe. Or, (3.) Take fyrap of rhubarb an ounce ; elixir falutis half an Ounce ; camomile-water an ounce and half ; mix for one dofe. Cathartics rougher. (1.) Take fyrup of buckthorn an ounce and half; camomile-water an ounce and half; aqua mirabilis 2 drams ; mix for one dofe. Or, (2.) Take fyrup of damafk rofes an ounce and half; elixir fa- lutis half an ounce ; camomile-wa- ' ter an ounce ;\ mix for one dofe. But becaufe fyrups in fuch large quantities are loathfome to many in taking, the general prattice is to pre- {cribe extemporaneous draughts by infufion, many of which may be made from fuch a portion of fome cathartic before given under that form as is allotted for a dofe: but becaufe this is not fo much ufed, we fhall here fubjoin a few examples (1.) Take fena 3 drams; liquae rice-root half a dram; coriander- feeds and falt of tartar, of each 10 grains; infufe to a fufficient quan- tity of hot water, to ftrain 3 ounces ; to which add elixir falutis 2 drams, and fyrup of damafk rofes half an ounce ; make a potion for one dofe. Or, (2.) Take fena’2 drams ; thubarb-root a dram ; ‘liquorice half a dram ; falt of tartar 1o grains ; infufe in enough boiling -water, ‘to {train 3 ounces; to it put fyrup of buckthorn 3 drams ; aqua mirabilis 2 drams ; make them into a potion for one dofe.
