About this work

Description

The sitter succeeded his uncle in the baronetcy of Burhope in 1761, after his father had murdered his brother, the preceding baronet, in order to secure the succession. He subsequently became a poor knight of Windsor. He apparently cherished unfounded claims to imaginary estates
