Biographical note
'Cocchi' is inscribed on the spine. This must be the elder Antonio Cocchi, professor of anatomy and physiology at Florence, where his son Raimondo also lectured. But on the verso of the fifth leaf of the text, Lorenz Heister-here spoken of as 'l'istero'-is mentioned as being among the most celebrated anatomists 'ancora viventi'. He died in 1758.
