O'Dell's Phrenological Institution was founded in 1868, established in London in 1879 and was located at Ludgate Circus and in East Sheen at the the time this item was published.

A number of publications by Stackpool O'Dell and other members of his family are to be found in the Modern Medicine collection of the Wellcome Library. Additional material on phrenology is detailed in Sources leaflet no. 17 'Alternative Medicine'.
