Lettering

Sacred architecture. North east view of the back of the original altar of St. Bartholomew the Greater. ... Lettering continues: "Drawn and etched by J.T. Smith. Drawn in May 1810. Internal specimen of the plain Norman style. The modern doorway between the columns leads to the charnel house; the bones of which occupy the space between the original and the present altar. The church was founded in the reign of Henry I, 1102. London published as the act directs Jan. 29, 1811, by John Thomas Smith No 18, Great May's Buildings, St. Martin's Lane". Further lettering in pencil on mount: "North ambulatory before 1863. N. aisle blocked with a blacksmith's forge at the west end enclosed by a wall & at the east end by a wooden partition & door"
