In the mouse, brown adipose tissue is primarily found between the shoulder blades (scapulae) and plays a key role in helping to maintain core body temperature. This image was acquired by label-free third harmonic generation microscopy (THG) which is a type of two-photon microscopy used to visualise naturally occurring non-fluorescent signals from biological samples. Width of image is 250 micrometres with the diameter of each cell approximately 30 micrometres.
