Description
Highly alliterative leaflet dating from about 1910, advertising Alfred Parker's Dr. Jenner's Kidney and Liver Cure, stating that "simple backache" was a sign "your kidneys are inactive, diseased, or inflamed, your liver may be similarly situated" and that paralysis and palsy may well result. It makes the (probably groundless) claim that all this could be cured by a bottle of Dr. Jenner's Kidney and Liver Cure. The leaflet is printed in dark blue on (what was once) white paper, illustrated with a line drawing of a troubled gentleman, walking stick in his right hand, left hand on the small of his back where he is obviously feeling pain. Alfred Parker, a member of the Pharmaceutical Society, was a dispensing and manufacturing chemist who was based at 9, High Street, Uttoxeter in Staffordshire and advertised his range of medicines extensively (presumably on a fairly local basis), all of which were made on the premises under his own personal supervision. He offered additional services as optician, dentist, and practical photographic chemist.
