Description
In Orlando innamorato and Orlando furioso, the helmet of the Moorish king Mambrino makes the wearer of it invulnerable. Don Quixote in his delusions identifies the helmet in a shaving bowl which a barber uses to protect his head from the rain. The barber's mount, a donkey, stands beside him. The handles of a pair of scissors stick out from a pouch. Lying discarded in the ground is the barber's basin. In the distance on the brow of a hill Sancho Panza on his donkey watches in consternation
