Guido Reni pinxit. J. Michel sculpsit. J. Bapt. Michel sculp. 1783 Bears coat of arms in lower margin. Signed and dated within the image by Michel Finished state bears lettering: "The shepherds offering. In the collection of the late Right Rev.d Dr. Newton, Lord Bishop of Bristol. N.B. The proprietor not having time to make a drawing from this picture in the Houghton Collection on account of their being purchased by the Emperess of Russia. That so capital a print should not be left out of this collection the late Bishop of Bristol gave leave to make a drawing from his original picture by the same master."
