Description
Vector control: monoconical trap in situ
This is a monoconical tsetse trap, which is hanging from the branches of a cocoa tree. This kind of trap is particularly good for catching riverine species, such as Glossina palpalis.
It has been found that workers on cocoa plantations are more likely to be infected with African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) than are other inhabitants of the same village. The picture was taken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
