Description
Letterpress verses in French below the engraving state that the world is a sea and a fishing ground, in which hearts are fish and desires are fishers. Pleasures are fish-hooks that catch languishing souls and cause their deaths

Creator/production credits
One of a series of plates illustrating the Icones of Philostratus, some of which were signed by Jaspar Isac, including the title page. The present print is not signed, and if not by Isac, may be by Leonard Gaultier after A. Caron or by Thomas de Leu (Weigert, loc. cit.). De Leu was Caron's son-in-law and worked with the publisher Abel L'Angelier (Print quarterly, 2021, 38: 430-433)
