Description
"In No 293 "The first day of oysters" though the scene is laid in London the characters are all Scotch not excepting the Jolly Young Waterman who is exceedingly like a certain young Scotch nobleman well known in the field playing the part in masquerade. The still life in this picture is most exquisitely and naturally painted." The new sporting magazine, 1838, 14: 188
