Previous title, replaced September 2023 : A young man pouring water through a funnel into a vase with a man and a woman standing back to back behind. Etching by J. Basire after G.F. Barbieri, il Guercino.
Description
Possibly a trompe l'oeil work. The funnel appears to be in two different planes: both supported by the head of the woman and the man, and placed between them and the viewer (thus concealing the tops of their heads and located in the same plane as the shelf on which the vase sits)
