About this work
Description
Jesus bears two pilgrim's attributes: a staff and a hat (attached to his back). Jesus appears as a pilgrim to the disciples on the way to Emmaus, but this leaves their haloes unexplained. He may be appearing to the apostles Peter and John, at the beckoning of Mary Magdalene (John 20.2-10)
