Description
Clockwise from top left: Astronomy, Geography, also the use of the globes; Navigation; Agriculture; Mineralogy; Literature; Physics; Philosophy; Divinity; Geology, or the formation of the Earth; Mathematics; Botany; Natural History. In the centre is a portrait of Lord Brougham striding past University College London and trumpeting the Penny magazine, with further caricatures of him above ("Rod of equity"), to left ("At home") and to right ("Abroad"). Below centre, manacles labelled as "Liberty of the press. Passive obedience", and a prison ("County Goal") labelled as "The poor man's guardian"
