    (b) (d) follows. Path 1 : movement of the 30S subunit one triplet along the messenger creates hybrid structure (b) where the polypeptidyl-tRNA is located a site comprising 50a:30p. Translocation is completed when the larger subunit moves to join the 30S subunit. This path has the advantage that the next incoming aminoacyl-tRNA could be recognised by hybrid (b) before completion of translocation. After Bretscher (1968a)
