About this work
Description
Set in the early 1950s and filmed in muted tones to reflect the grimly austere atmosphere of the time, this true story is played out by Jeff Goldblum (James Watson), Tim Piggot-Smith (Francis Crick) and Juliet Stevenson (Rosalind Franklin). Piece by piece, by taking risks, cutting corners, guesswork, and in the opinion of some scientists, occasionally plagiarising the work of rivals, a British and an American scientist produced one of the greatest scientific achievements of the century. Narrowly beating their rivals, Francis Crick and James Watson discovered the structure of DNA in 1953 and provided a new basis for genetic science.
