View along the Admiralty Prospect to Palace Square. On the left is the Main Admiralty building designed by A.D. Zakharov and built between 1806 and 1823. Beyond it, with a flagpole, is the Winter Palace. Centre, the Alexander column in honour of Emperor Alexander I. Right background, the palace of the Etat Major, and on the far right the War Office. In the foreground are flagstones with lifting apparatus for the construction of St Isaac's Cathedral
