By Jeremiah Bridges anatomist from Oxford. To his Grace the Duke of Northumberland this plate is most humbly inscribed by his Grace's most obliged and obedient servant, Joseph Barber. F. Sartorius pinxt. C. Grignion sculpt.

Two other impressions are known (in 2004), in the Library of the Royal Veterinary College, London (RVC) and in the Yale Center for British Art, Yale University.

Bridges published a book on farriery in 1751 (No foot, no horse, an essay on the anatomy of the foot of that noble and useful animal the horse, re-issued 1752). The composition is different from any in Stubbs's plates in his Anatomy of the horse (1766)
