Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of neuromast organ of zebrafish lateral line organ, showing stereocilia and shorter hairs in distinct clusters. The stereocilia work in a similar way to the hair cells of mammalian ears, detecting movements of fluid (the cochea is filled with fluid).
