    are dealt with in the fifth chapter. The next eleven chapters are given up to the uses of the different classes of waters and to notices of the different spas. Marine spas [it must be mentioned that no line has been drawn in this chapter between true marine spas and seaside localities used rather as climatic stations than for sea- bathing] are considered in the seventeenth chapter, and in the remaining chapter an attempt is made to indicate what balneo-therapeutic management is most likely to prove useful in various diseases and morbid conditions. In describing the individual spas and mineral waters there has been necessarily a good deal of repetition, which, however, it is hoped may be found of use by those who chance to consult the book for information concerning some particular spa only. For purposes of reference also, a number of spas (some merely of local importance) have been mentioned, though they are hardly likely to be known or visited by English medical men or patients. In the arrangement of spas of any one group, the method ordinarily followed has been to give at first somewhat detailed notes of a few of the better known members of the group, and then, in proceeding with the other members, to follow the political geographical order of Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzer- land, France, Italy, etc. Thus in the chapter on the simple thermal waters, Wildbad and Eagatz-Pfaefers have been taken as types of the group, and somewhat detailed accounts have been given of these two spas.
