About this work
Description
This documentary presented by Jimmy Doherty looks at the hidden lives of farmyard animals - in this programme cows. He visits a farm in Devon to find all about cows. Cows were one of the first animals to have been domesticated by Man. Taking a small herd of breeding cows, Doherty observes them as they perform a few experiments to evaluate their intelligence. The programme uses a short sequence from the Wellcome Library title 'Conditioned reflexes and behavior' showing Pavlov's experiments with dogs. Doherty explains why cows can be so dangerous when threatened and why they are so nervous of dogs.
