On the left, a hand emerging from a cloud proffers a glass chemical flask. On the right are volumes of writings by iatrochemical, anatomical and medical authors: Paracelsus, Van Helmont, Bartholinus, Quercetanus (Joseph Duchesne), Oswald Croll, and Rivierius (Lazare Rivière). The names of the authors are written on the fore-edges facing towards the room
