Introduction to microscopy.

The video covers the basic optical properties of the microscope and demonstrates the correct procedures to set up bright field illumination. I t shows the technique of oil immersion and describes the calibration of the eye piece graticule. Filmed in a clinical environment at the Queen Alexandra Hospit al, Portsmouth, the video shows: bright field microscopy to examine a breast biopsy; polarisin g microscopy to study uric acid crystasls in gout; fluorescence microscopy to de tect antibodies; Phase contrast microscopy to examine sperm motility in IVF treatment.
