Description

Baron Methuen, of Corsham Court, Corsham, Wiltshire. Army officer, served in the Anglo-Egyptian War, 1882, and in the Boer Wars (1899-1902). "Apparently a military 'Prussophile', he attempted to introduce some German practices into the British army ... He commanded the home district from 1892 to 1897, and organized the armed forces in the 1897 jubilee procession" (Oxford dictionary of national biography), hence the lettering on this print
