The Royal Albert Institution was originally referred to as the Northern Counties' Asylum for Idiots and Imbeciles in 1866, then the Royal Albert Asylum from 1867-1909
Consists of a list of legacies, a prospectus (Richard F. Cavendish, Charles F. Tetley, Edward B. Dawson, Samuel Keir), list of trustees, presidents, officers and central committee members, a report of the general annual meeting at Lancaster 29 October 1915 (Samuel Keir), the report of the central committee (Richard F. Cavendish, chairman), the report of the medical superintendent (W. H. Coupland), the auditor's report (A. B. S. Welch), an appeal for 5,000 guineas to meet the cost of the new farm colony, cases of improvement, extracts from the visitors' book, extracts from speeches, financial and statistical statements (A. B. S. Welch, Samuel Keir), presents received, census of imbecile or feeble-minded persons, a list of places that inmates came from, a short article about Brunton House - the asylum's private home for male pupils, photographs of the Asylum, its grounds & other buildings and the pupils engaged in school lessons, farming activities etc. and portraits of Edward B. Dawson, C. F. Tetley, Herbert L. Storey, Lord Richard F. Cavendish and J. W. Wearing.
