Reports for 1920-1967 are by the Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health. From 1968 they are by the Chief Medical Officer of the Dept. of Health and Social Security

This series is published in tandem with: Annual report of the Ministry of Health (from 1968, Annual report of the Dept. of Health and Social Security). Each series has its own title page, pagination, and Command papers numbers, except that reports between 1946 and 1949 are combined ones, and between 1950 and 1961 the Chief Medical Officer's report forms part II or part III of the Ministry one. The reported period may differ (e.g. the Ministry report for the year ended 31 March 1946 includes the Chief Medical Officer's report for the year ended 31 December 1945). The series are catalogued and shelved separately
