About this work

Description

Remedios anticolericos: with other medical receipts. A collection interspersed with biographical details of the Compiler's career as a Spanish military doctor. Bound with a printed copy of 'Ordenes relativas al Servicio de Medicina del Ejercito' [1845?], and a holograph continuation by the Compiler to 1849: also an inserted printed copy of 'Instrucciones ... en la Revista de Inspeccion ... al Personal y Servicio de Sanidad Militar y sus Dependencias' issued by the Ministerio de la Guerra in 1863. Illustrated by a pen-drawing showing the proportions of the human body. The author gives a detailed account of his military services, and of his illnesses. He suffered from tuberculosis, and in his later entries, the script is that of a sick man. The latest is dated 6 September 1867, from a hispital in Madrid. He was a careful observer of the phases of his malady, and gives particulars of various remedies tried and their results. He died probably not long after the final entry. Among the receipts are records of a cholera-epidemic in 1855 at Santoña, extracts on artistic anatomy, and a 10 page list of watering-places in Spain.
