"The Portable Den is meant to be an operational object, to be displayed, and perhaps even used as an object of physical, 'magical' intentional protection. The group of works made under the title The Den are all expressions of seeking protection, refuge and freedom, and the Portable Den is the only material item located outside of the physical (real life) den born out of materials from the den which can then be transported anywhere as a portable embodiment of the den. Of course, the Portable Den's life wouldn't be to use it as a daily cloak, but it's life and use should ideally be in conditions in which that could happen, albeit in display or in occasional performance."--Provided by artist.

"Artist Sop explores alternative strategies for self-care during the Covid-19 pandemic through a series of meditative sound works. As someone in the "clinically extremely vulnerable" category, Sop was forced to shield during the pandemic. They narrate the process of building a secret den in a cemetery at the edges of a wood near where they live.
