On the right Pieter Codde as Roman Catholic Archbishop of Utrecht (thought to be sympathetic to Jansenism) stands next to the heavier side of the scales which holds the Bible and the lion of the United Provinces. On the left the lighter scale contains a Jesuit holding a ciborium and contains papal attributes. A Franciscan friar is trying to pull down the Jesuit's side in order to make it appear heavier.
