About this work

Description

This film begins with a woman sending food her younger son to take food to her older son who is sick in bed. The younger boy picks up dead rat from floor of hut, holds it by the tail, and takes it outside to his father who tells him to throw it away within the compound. Later, the father finds the sick son dead in bed and the body is taken out for burial. An older man sees dead rat on the ground and sends for the health officer who takes it to the laboratory where it is dissected by a biologist who shows the health officer part of the intestine and tests it under a microscope - they diagnose it as plague. A medical team are sent to the village and set up a table with medicine, the villagers arrive and queue up to get injected. Later, a meeting of villagers is held, the white doctor and medical officer are present while the head man (Chief) talks to the villagers. The white doctor and medical officer visit the father of the dead boy, tell him off for not cleaning up his compound, show him what needs doing and burn his hut down. The film ends with shots of other villagers repairing straw roofs, making good holes in huts and killing any vermin, all overseen by the doctor and medical officer.
