Description

Above, Saint Pantaleon standing, holding a cross, a closed box, and an instrument. Around him, four episodes in his life. Below, a bird's eye view of the buildings forming the skete (monastic community) of Saint Panteleimon on Mount Athos (a different institution from the Panteleimon monastery on Mount Athos): "The lower zone depicts the Skete of St Panteleimon, a dependency of the Monastery of Koutloumousiou, with its kyriakon, bell tower, cemetery church and the kalyvae of the skete. Lower left, in the churchyard of the kyriakon and next to the skete's olive press, is represented a holy water rite" (H.I.S., loc. cit.)

Lettering

Inscribed in Greek and Slavonic and signed on the plate with lettering translated by H.I.S. (loc. cit.) as "Drawing of the Holy Skete of St Panteleimon of the Monastery of Koutloumousiou on Mount Athos, which commissioned the engraving. Engraved by the monk Theodosios, iconographer, 1810". Some of the characters including the date are indistinct. There is further lettering
