About this work

Publication/Creation

[London] (near Serjeants Inn, Fleet Street) : Robert Sayer

Physical description

1 print : line engraving with etching ; platemark 27.9 x 18.8 cm

Lettering

Attention. The effects of attention are to make the eye-brows sink and approach the sides of the nose, to turn the eye-balls toward the object that causes it, to open the mouth, and especially the upper part; to decline the head a little, and fix it, without any other remarkable alteration As this print bears the number 2 and the identical plate in the Sayer folio at the Wellcome Institute bears the number 3, we may infer either that page 2 (containing a brief description of Le Brun's theory of the passions) was omitted from later volumes of the same folio, or that copies of the prints were published as a series, again without the text Bears number: 2
