Johnstone, James (?1730-1802), physician

James Johnstone, An historical dissertation concerning the malignant epidemical fever of 1756. With some account of the malignant diseases prevailing since the year 1752, in Kidderminster (London, 1758). Johnstone's own copy with numerous corrections, interleaved with extensive notes in his own hand. Inserted loose at the end of the volume (but now foliated 97-103) are notes taken by Johnstone in 1795 from John Clark, Observations on fevers (London, 1792), and three prescriptions written by Johnstone in June 1779 for Thomas Lyttelton, 2nd Baron Lyttelton, who died in mysterious circumstances a few months later.

Mounted inside the front cover is a note concerning the descent of the volume to Johnstone's son, Edward (1757-1851) and grandson, James (1806-1869).
