About this work
Description
Medical science offers an increasing number of ante-natal tests to screen for disablity, but as yet, abortion is the only alternative to the risk of giving birth to a physically or mentally impaired child. Screening cannot usually foresee the degree of impairment. And does it present the child as a problem rather than as a child? On the other hand, is a person justified in bringing a child into the world to face inevitable suffering in a society which may be increasingly hostile to disability? Among the panel discussing these issues are Tracey Proudlock, who suffers from spina bifida, Fiona Cruisey, mother of a spina bifida child, Dr. David Cook (Green College, Oxford), Dr. Fleur Fisher (British Medical Association) and Simon Walters (Political correspondent, "The Sun"), father of a Down's syndrome child.
