Description
A film showing step-by-step treatment for Colles fracture. Metal splnts are manipulated into shape. A patient laying prone on a bed is measured for lint supports. The leg from the knee to the ankle is bandaged. A cage like splint is manoeuvred into position, secured and fixed into place. An intertitle says that Sir John Lynn-Thomas estimated the force at which the force to stretch the structures.

1 of 121 clinical cine films (1950s-80s) donated to the Wellcome Library by the former University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff University in 2013. The majority of the films were created by the college as part of their teaching activities with most dating from between 1950-80. There are a few earlier examples of films from elsewhere from the 1930s which were in distribution and were collected by the university.
The film begins with the badge of the Massachusetts Dept of Public Safety 'Inspected. Tagged and Approved for use with incandescent lamp of not more than 600 watts'. The intertitles have the Stoll Picture Productions Cricklewood logo on and an end credit.
