About this work

Description

Diary of an alchemist, containing details of experiments, processes, etc.: from 22 June, 1714 to 19 June 1715; and in greater detail from 10 March 1724 to 10 January 1727. Mainly in German, but with some passages in cypher. Inserted about the middle of the volume is a calendar in German, printed in red and black, for 1724 (8 ll.), the blank spaces written over. There are some entries by a different, but contemporary hand.

1 volume 424 ll. (first & last bl.). 4to. 191/2 × 16 cm. Original calf binding, stamped G.C.H. on the upper cover. Some leaves are written on the rectos only, and a few are blank.

Biographical note

MS. 3757 [Paracelsus], and some of the notes at the end of MS. 1764 [Compendium] are written by the same hand as that of most of the present volume.

Armorial book-plate of Ignatius Dominicus, S.R.I., Comes de Chorinsky [1729-1792] pasted inside the upper cover.
