Description

A comprehensive survey of the natural, medical and social history, commercial production and obstetric use of ergot and its derivative ergometrine. Includes a detailed description of the life-cycle of the fungus; the manufacturing methods which lead to the extraction of the alkaloids and Professor Chassar Moir's own account of the discovery of ergometrine in 1935. The climax of the film demonstrates ergometrine in use at the Obstetric Unit of University College Hospital, London.
