    Hydrargyrum (Hg). Tests (a)—A metal, fluid at common temperatures, bril- liantly lustrous, and easily divisible into spherical globules. (5)—It volatilises at a heat below that of visible red- ness, leaving no residue (absence of metals, as lead, tin, &c.) MERCURIC SALTS— Hydrargyrum Ammoniatum <NH2HgCl). HgCl2 + 2NH4HO - NH2HgCl + NH2C1 + 2H20 An opaque, white powder, on which cold Water, Alcohol, and Ether have no action (absence of Perchloride of Mercury—HgCl2). Entirely volatilised at a heat under redness (absence of fixed salts). Hydrargyri Flava Lotio (HgO—in water). HgCl2 + Ca2H0 - HgO + CaCl2 + H20 Hydrargyri Iodidum Rubrum (Hglz). HgCl2 + 2KI = Hgl2 + 2KC1 Tests {a)—A crystalline powder, of a vermilion colour, becoming yellow when gently heated over a lamp on a sheet of paper. (b)—Almost insoluble in Water; dissolves sparingly in Alcohol, but freely in Ether, or in an aqueous solution of Iodide of Potassium, (<?)—Entirely volatilised by a heat under redness (absence of fixed salts, as lead, zinc, &c). Hydrargyri Nitratis Acidus Liquor (Hg2N03). 3Hg + 8HNO3 = 3(Hg2N03) + 2NO + 4H20 A colourless, strongly acid solution. Specific gravity 2 246. Gives a yellow ppt. (HgO) with excess of KHO. dropped into Hydrochloric Acid, diluted with twice its volume of water (absence of Mercurous Nitrate—HgN03). Tests-
