Lettering

S. Sebastianus martyr. Martyr his ingenti succensis [sic] amore tonantis Terrifica meruit scandere morte polum. Passus enim cecidit transfixo corpore iactus [sic] Telorum et valida spicula terra manu. Eximio ac praestanti viro Henrico ab Os mercatori amstellodame(n)si rari omnis artificii, inprimis caelaturae, caelatique operis unico admiratori. artificiumq(ue) Mecaenati L.M.Q.D.D.D. Johannes Eillarts frisius sculptor. Engraved within the image: "Iac. Matham sculp."

Creator/production credits

According to Hollstein, Eillarts worked in Rome from ca. 1600 to 1612 and in Leeuwarden in his native Friesland from ca. 1612 to 1650--Zeitler, op. cit. It is not clear in which country the present print was produced
