About this work
Description
Presented by war correspondent, Allan Little, this programme looks at all aspects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Little suffered from PTSD as have many people who have been involved in war. However, the NHS treat 220,000 people a year now for PTSD, many of whom are making large insurance claims for their condition. The definition of PTSD is widening all the time and now includes teachers, firemen and nurses. People who believe they have PTSD describe the process of getting compensation. But getting compensation is not the same as getting well and in fact just prolongs focus on the traumatic event, plus they doom themselves to a life in which they have to maintain their 'disability' and can thus never fully function again.
