About this work
Description
According to Le François, an event at the Château de Gaillon in 1562, involving a priest named Pierre de Gondi, while the cardinal de Bourbon was entertaining Cathérine de Medicis and her son, the future Charles IX. Two courtiers, Louise de la Beraudière and Madame de Sauve, tried to seduce the abbé. The former succeeded, but the latter was jealous and as a trick told the abbot of the local Charterhouse that a possessed man was in the castle. Two Carthusians came to Louise's bedroom and exorcised de Gondi. He later became the Cardinal de Retz (Le François pp. 31-37)
