About this work
Description
The video contains two separate programmes in the Tomorrow's World series. Programme 1. Laser Dental Drill. Programme 2.Includes a 10-minute item describing a project to trace living descendants of Chile's Atacama Desert's 8000-year old mummies, comparing mitochondrial DNA samples from living inhabitants with samples taken from the mummies' bones. A fiesta, which draws people of the whole region to the village of San Pedro, provides Dr. Erica Hagelberg (geneticist, Cambridge University) with the opportunity to take DNA mouth swab samples. Eventually, it may be possible to trace the genetic history of the different cultures which live in and around the Atacama desert.
