    , The Committee are much indebted to the Mayor of the Borough (Cr. A. W. Piper), and to our Chairman (Col. J. C. labor) for the appeals which they have made to the Borough and County for new subscribers, which resulted in an addition to this very important source of permanent income of ^448. To the Colchester Carnival Society, the Committee desire to tender their warmest thanks for the splendid and successful effort which was made on behalf of the funds and for the magnificent result which brought in no less a sum than ^1,103. Our thanks are due and are cordially given to our friends at Maldon for their efforts on behalf of our funds, which resulted in a generous gift of ^130 7s. 6d., being the proceeds of their Hospital Saturday Fund and Bank Holiday Fund, 1926. We are pleased to record that the Mayor (Cr. A. W. Piper) has inaugurated a “ Sportsman’s Million Penny Fund,” which is, we understand, being taken up with enthusiasm, and will no doubt result in augmenting considerably the funds of the Hospital. To Mrs. Reginald D. Hill and Mrs. H. B. Dickinson we are deeply grateful for the organisation of the Tally-ho teas, which brought in a sum of ^*267. Miss Louisa Jones again organised Egg Week, which was in every way successful and brought in 39,117 eggs. Miss Jones was also responsible for the organisation of Lenten teas These latter provided mattresses, pillows, blankets, and linen for the equipment of the private wards. Our very hearty thanks and appreciation are accorded to Miss Jones. The Tinfoil collection has been satisfactory up to the end of the year, and is being continued. Mr. C. J. Wilkin, J.P., of Tiptree, has again given evidence of his generosity by increasing his gift of jam to a full year’s supply, for which we sincerely thank him. To the Headmaster and Staff of the Royal Grammar School we are grateful for their continued interest in and the upkeep of the Colchester Royal Grammar School cot, and to the Prudential Assurance Company we are indebted for increased subscription for the maintenance of the cots bearing their name. We desire to place on record the gift from the trustees of the late Mr. M. Bayard Brown, of the sum of £1,000 for the permanent endowment of a bed. This is, the first endowment of its kind in the history of the institution, and our thanks are warmly accorded to the trustees.
