What you’ll do

Join members of our Visitor Experience team for a conversation about burial practices.

You'll be able to share your own experience, and explore how traditions around burials can lead to reminiscence and closure.

You’ll talk in small groups, each with a facilitator who will provide conversation prompts and an activity. You’re free to say as much or as little as you’d like. Or you can just listen.  

This is a relaxed event so you can move around during the session. There will also be a chill-out room with cushions, blankets, ear defenders, earplugs and stim toys. Tea and coffee will be provided. 

This event is recommended for people aged 18 and over. 

We want to create a confidential and safe space for everyone, so we’ll be closing the doors at 11:45 and late-comers will not be able to join the event after that.

Location

We’ll be in the Wellcome Kitchen, which you can find by taking the stairs or the lift to level 2.

Place not guaranteed

Booking a ticket for a free event does not guarantee you a place. You should aim to arrive 15 minutes before the event is scheduled to start to claim your place. If you do not arrive on time, your place may be given to someone on the waiting list.

Waiting list

If this event is fully booked, you may still be able to attend. We will operate a waiting list, which opens 30 minutes before this event starts. Arrive early, and we’ll give you a numbered ticket. If there are any unfilled places just before the start time, we will invite you to enter in order of ticket number.

About your facilitators

Lou Brook

(she/her)

Louise is a facilitator at Wellcome Collection with a background in heritage and conservation. Her research at Wellcome focuses on the stories behind objects and major events, bringing forward hidden histories and exploring topics previously considered ‘taboo’.

Jake Blackavar

Jake Blackavar is a visitor experience and engagement facilitator at Wellcome Collection. Here they encourage people to explore different narratives and ways of experiencing a museum space through creative, participatory and questioning practices. Jake is passionate about revealing the diverse interpretations of artworks, as well as how discussing them can foster communal bonding and enable the sharing of knowledge and experience.

Isabelle Gapomo is a visitor experience and engagement facilitator at Wellcome Collection, where she fosters critical dialogue and reflection in an inclusive environment. Isabelle has a keen interest in connecting historical and contemporary issues, including developing a series of talks that explore the impact of labour and health in Black communities and beyond.
